Installing Windows 95 is the process of loading Windows 95 onto a desktop computer, laptop or virtual machine, either as the sole operating system on the computer or alongside another pre-existing operating system (such as Ubuntu or a different version of Windows). Unlike Windows Vista and beyond, Windows 95 is preloaded from an MS-DOS environment using a startup disk. Then, the hard disk in the computer must be formatted and partitioned using MS-DOS tools before installation can occur. Installing Windows 95 should not be done on modern hardware unless within a virtual machine or emulator such as PCem.
