Data Preservation is the process of copying or storing data to ensure that it remains preserved when the mediums that it stored on begins to fail, or be obsoleted by newer technology. Backup systems like Acronis TrueImage may not usable on systems developed 10 or 20 years from now. Therefore, as newer applications are developed, the data must be migrated to the new software before the old one is superseded.
